I seem to be one project ahead of my self these day

I barley have one in the works and I am planning my next one
I actually have about 3 in my head right now

I signed up for a Craftsy Class as well

I am making an Irish Chain Quilt now

using Jelly rolls strips

Lots of them

But I do have to admit
It does make 9 patch square making much easier

Great Granny Finished!! (11)

TA - DA!!!!

Many hours
Many yards of thread
Many words

but it is done!!

It is a queen sized beast!

I used Martenique by 3 Sisters for Moda fabric
1 Layer cake and 1 Charm pack

I found the pattern on

I still have thought of making a regular granny square quilt
I also would like to make my son a quilt before he goes for his surgery
I have a quilt started for my niece for her grad
and I have fabric lined up to make a Swoon quilt

This quilt was a beast to quilt and bind
I was toying with the idea of getting this one
longarm quilted, but then ran out of time.

I just straight lined quilted it
in a cross corner pattern
I found a quilt store that rents a long arm
machine by the day in store, you get a lesson on how to use it
and get to use it for the whole day.
I plan to try it out....

maybe next time

But looks pretty good on my bed!!

I really wanted to take pictures outside,
but seriously, we still have 3-4 foot snow banks

The Good and the Bad

My youngest son was born with kidney issues
They never bothered him though

Until last December
He stated having pains in the kidney region
We went to the hospital, they did X-Rays
and Ultrasounds, found nothing
No source of the pain

HE had these attacks of pain a few times,
So I took him to our family Doctor,
who sent him to the provincial specialist.

Out appointment with the specialist was this last week
He sent him for a Renal Scan

Poor guy had to lay still for 30 minutes,
then got to go for a little walk,
then lay for another 30 minutes.

The results are
The small tube coming from his kidney to his bladder
is pinched in a small area,
Which we knew from when he was a baby.
This area has started causing the kidney to not be able to empty
which is the pain.

The good news is
It can be fixed!!

The bad news is
It will take surgery to fix it
He is not too happy about that,
but glad that we have an answer to what is causing the pain.

On the quilting side of my life
I got my Great Grannies all joined together
I added a 2 inch border all around each square

Looks good doesn't it??

Just need to
baste and quilt it now!!

Titans Quilt (10)

Got a few things to show today!!

I made myself a design wall

I have been eyeing up all kinds of design wall
all over the internet

I seen all kinds from
ceiling tiles on the wall
to permanent frames built

I share my sewing room with my spare room
so anything permanent is out of the question

Upon searching the internet
I came up with a few options

hang a flannel sheet on the wall,
the fabric will stick to it.
That could work, I do have an old flannel sheet

another option
Hang a piece of batting on the wall,
again the fabric will stick to it.
Ok, I am going to keep my batting for inside my quilts

While in a local quilt store
Cindy told me
"just go and get yourself a cheap vinyl tablecloth,
hang it backwards, the fabric will stick to the fuzzy backing!"

I happen to have a one of those tablecloths on hand
took 4 thumbtacks, hung it up
and
TA-DA
It works great, and I can take it down anytime I will have company
the fabric sticks to it like velcro!!

this is it all covered with my Great Granny squares, which I have all pieced together
I have decided I want to put to add a sashing in between each block
SO I am waiting on a trip to the fabric store

This is it without all the blocks
Here are a few of my favourite blocks from the Granny

 Now
on to Titans Quilt
he had his 6th birthday the other day,
well to say he loved his quilt would be an under statement
The look of his face when he opened his gift, was pure
joy, better than a toy!!

I wish I had taken a picture of that moment

I used a rag quilt pattern, with big 10 x 10 blocks
of flannel, in his favorite colors.
I didn't put a binding on, but instead just serged around the edges

Cara's Quilt

things on the farm are still busy as usual

Seems like it is still winter

Spring seems forever away,

Yes these seriously are drifts we have around our yard
and they are still here

My son still can't see out his bedroom window

Spring is on it's way
spring is on it's way
spring is on it's way

I'll just keep telling myself that

We had a visitor here for a few weeks
my niece from the city wanted
to come help out on the farm with the calves and what not

she also wanted auntie to help her make her own quilt

She brought all the fabric and batting and backing that she would need
She used a simple charm pack pattern
with batik fabrics

but her visit wasn't all fun and sewing
she had to do some work too

I finished a quilt myself,
made myself a design wall,
am currently catching up on a whole year of scrapbooking

Happy Saturday
