Carries Centerpiece (30)

Looking back on March
I thought it was a busy month around here

I can't imagine how I have managed
to get 2 quilts finished and another top all sandwiched ready to quilt
along with everything else, that went on around here

I made this quilt top back in January
and my daughter and I have decided it will become
a grad gift for one of her class mates

Again as with my last quilt,
I used a letter "C"
from the Spell it with Moda blog hop
for the quilt label

I did some free motion quilting, and some straight line quilting

I made swirls in the centres of the flowers

and it comes complete with a scrappy binding

Happy Monday
I am hoping April brings Spring!!

Katies Hopscotch - In Progress

What I am in love with working on now!!

A custom quilt, for a grad gift,
a while until grad, but I don't see any point in waiting until the last minute

I while back, in February, I spent a few days in Moose Jaw
exploring the city and it's quilt shops

I visited the Quilt Patch
wow, does this store have flannel, lots and lots of flannel!!
OF course it helped that my hotel room was freezing at the time,
I couldn't stop thinking about their flannel

I picked up a few fat quarter bundles they had,
along with a pattern their store owner had created called Hopscotch

Fast forward to last week, when I was asked to make a grad gift quilt
and the recipient loves purple

PERFECT!!

all cut up and ready to be pieced together!!

ok now there is a story for this picture

I was chain piecing, first 60 pieces together, then 30 other pieces together, then the 60 pieces together to make 30 different pieces. Then you put the first 30 pieces and the second 30 pieces together, this is how close I was to getting them all together when my bobbin thread ran out

SO CLOSE!!!

and a lovely pile of blocks!!

and up on the design wall,
waiting to be squared up and sewn into rows!!

Cant wait to get this one finished!!
I have a fat quarter bundle of flannel I am planning to make the same pattern in!!!

Happy Monday

Janelles Vintage Finished!! (29)

My Library Project, as well as
my March goal was to finish
a Vintage patterned quilt

The fabric was picked!!!

All cut out ready to be sewn back together!!

and a quilt top was born

Then I found a few other projects that needed my attention
so it took a few extra days than usual

Oh well, no quilt police at my door!!

Then I started seeing all these cute letter blocks showing up
and decided that would make the cutest quilt label for this quilt

So I whipped one up,
which got me in the mood to sew again

and sew I did

So there you have it, another quilt I have actually made from my stash of books
which seems to be growing again, don't judge me!!

Happy Sunday
stay warm!!

I made a house

Hey

Sorry I've been a little too busy to to share here on my blog

Things around the farm always get a little crazy at this time of year
we have 76 baby calves born in the last 2 weeks, and about 50 more to go

The weather has finally smartened up, which means we don't have to get up
and night and check for calves, so they don't freeze
These days, when I am not out at the barn or corrals, I am cooking or cleaning my house
or napping
not getting much time to play on my sewing machine

I have got a few things done this month though

I decided it was time to take down my Valentines wall hanging
but with all the snow we still have, it doesn't seem much like spring yet
so I decided I needed an "in between" wall hanging

again, a pattern from Camille Roskelly's book Simply Retro
have I mentioned how much I love that book??

I used a mix of fabrics from Simply Style from V & Co
I knew I wanted a navy house, in the middle,
our house is navy, so this is our house!!

I have still been working on my free motion quilting,
still practicing

and decided to go ahead and add some to this wall hanging

just a big loose wave for now, but it's a start

Thanks for stopping by
Happy Tuesday

Janelle WIP, March Goal

A Lovely Year of Finishes

Wow, March already!!

Things get super busy around here in March
My family and I farm,
both grain farm, and cattle!!

March means calving season, so far we have
22 baby calves, they are SO cute, out of the 140 we will get
This means sleepless nights,
tired days, some afternoon naps, and some extra coffee

But I wouldn't trade it for anything!!

So, I have decided since sewing time can be limited this month,
my goal will be a smaller one.

Just finish a quilt that I have already started

I have the top all pieced, I need to add the borders,
get is basted and quilted!!

The quilt is a commission one,
to be given for a grad gift in June,
but I decided, "why wait until the last minute to try and do it"
Seeing as we have calving, dance competitions, seeding,
and a grad around here our selves this spring,
I am going to get it out of the way

She choose the Vintage pattern fro Camille Roskelly,
but in a twin size

and has asked for a matching pillow sham.

So that is my goal for March,
Get this finished and a pillow sham to match!!

Wish me luck!!
Feel free to send coffee!!
