Jessica's Giant Star (13)

Hey, Happy Tuesday

Rainy here again today
Worked hard out in the yard yesterday
pulling weeds and spraying other weeds,
cutting grass,
fertilizing plants and all that fun stuff.

Now that I have given this quilt to it's recipient,
I can show it off.

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this one!!

Hard to give it away,
so happy with it, so proud of it.

(love this picture by the way)

I seen a pattern a while back
from Jeni at In Color Order,
for a Giant Star

A while later while in my local quilt shop,
I came across a fat Quarter bundle that I knew would perfect for it

I modified the pattern a little bit,
made me half square triangles bigger than hers,
my fat quarters were 22 x 20

I have quilted all of my own quilts this far,
but just thought this quilt needed something more than just straight lines.

I found a lady near by that does custom Long Arm Quilting
gave her a call, and this was the result
I was very happy to say the least!!

I backed it with a hot pink Minkee,
and used a red fabric from my stash for the binding

It went to my niece for her High School Graduation gift

This was a super easy quilt and I will use this pattern again

I do also think I will be using my Custom lady again a well

Summer Fun Quilt (12)

Last week I shared with you my Ipromtu Quilt along quilt,
I thought those fabrics went together so well,
I decided to make a second smaller throw quilt with some of the left overs

The fabric is
Bohemian Festival by Lila Tueller for Riley Blake
and the pattern is Happy Weekender from Moda Bake Shop

I modified it a bit to make it a smaller square quilt,
for a teenage birthday gift.
The backing is soft pink Minkee

Had to come up with some place interesting to take the pictures,
we had just had 3 days of rain, so locations were limited.
(It actually rained again right after we got these shots)

On a side note, I got my Giant Star back from the custom longarm!!!!
Can't wait to share that one with you!!

Happy Tuesday

My First Quilt Along

while Pinteresting and blog hopping one day,
I came across A Quilt Along,
The pattern looked easy enough,
I had a fat quarter bundle I wanted to use...

SO I joined in...

It is being hosted by I'm A Ginger Monkey,
and we are using the Impromtu Pattern by Rachal Giffith

SO today is a rainy Saturday
I have made my bed, and cleaned my bathrooms,
the washing machine is doing its thing,
now I get to play

I am using a fat quarter bundle, Bohemian Festival by Lila Tueller for Riley Blake

My bobbins have been wound, my needle is brand new, here we go

On a side note, I took my Giant Star quilt
to a Custom Longarm Quilter yesterday,
I am so excited to see the finished product, I can't wait!!

Happy Saturday

trees, trees and more trees!!

We built a house on the farm a few years ago,
we did not build in the yard that was here.

We went across the road
and started our own yard

Which means we are in the middle of no where
in a field

with no trees!

Which mean nothing to stop any wind
30km, 40km 70km wind
blows right through

Most of our deck furniture has blown off the deck
we have even had to replace the BBQ!

We started out with a row of Lilacs
450 of them

This is how big they are
I sure hope they survive and grow!!

next is a row of Laurel Willows
160 of these ones

We used the post hole digger to dig the holes

I can't wait for them to get a few leaves
so you can actually see the trees

After the willows, to the inside of the yard
is 2 rows of Colorado Blue Spruce

133 of them

They are not too small,
again I hop they all make it

Everybody on deck to help

A few sun burns and some very sore legs
(743 is not the number to start doing squats at)
the job is complete. Now just to keep the weeds away
and keep them watered.

Happy Thursday

WIP Wednesday

Many things in progress
here on the farm
We just finished planting 743 trees,
but more on that tomorrow.

I have been spending way more time outside
tending to my yard, than in my craft room

It is summer in Saskatchewan
a very short season,
We have to get out and enjoy it while we can

I do have a Works in Progress to share though

A quilt for Josh

He asked for a new quilt, big enough for his bed,
his other quilt was made when he only had a twin sized bed,
now he is in a queen size.

This is just the quilt top, I am waiting to find a brown flannel sheet for the backing

and

The Giant Star
I fell in love with the giant star when I first seen it on Jenni's blog

I found this fat quarter bundle with all these great purple, reds and pinks
paired up with yellows, so nice and bright

I started with 20 inch squares so this is a BIG star

Again just the quilt top,
I am hoping for some rainy days to quilt them both

Still unsure how I am going to quilt the giant star though
